The Commons Courtyard

Community Courtyard revitalisation 2020

Pachamama House, Muloobinba, Newcastle

Pachamama House is run as a not-for-profit community resource centre and an incubator for people and groups working for social change. This space is a co-working and shared community space that exists to support the progressive and radical activist community of Newcastle to grow and flourish.

Pachamama House had an unused courtyard, and this grant was used to transform this area into a vibrant and attractive, multi-purpose community space and garden. The project was implemented using participatory approaches to maximise community engagement and ownership of the space. Workshops included: collaborative murals, urban farming, wicking bed construction, kids' play area construction, and community kitchen build. This transformation has since brought a new life and purpose to this space.

The Commons Courtyard project was funded under the NSW Government My Community Project funding scheme and auspiced through the Community Power Agency.
