The Future Creek Canopy

The Future Creek Canopy is a modular immersive installation with unlimited compositional formations, adapting and evolving to each new context like a living system. Developed for the ‘Future Creek’ Project in Muloobinba/Newcastle, the suspended canopy serves as a temporary site for ongoing creative fieldwork, collective action and educational workshops. Reflecting on colonial water management systems and urban land modification, the installation questions how we might create more reciprocal relationships with the places we occupy.

Tracing the tensions between engineered concrete flood drains and re-naturalised urban creeks, Hannon holds space for new imaginaries and alternative futures for these disrupted environments. As people move through or gather beneath the work, it becomes both a shelter and active collaborator. Its pockets hold prompts and archival matter from past workshops, inviting audiences to consider the future of urban ecologies not as fixed, but a generative space for community co-creation and collaboration.
